About the role
Working closely with both the Council’s Migration, Refugee and Asylum team and the Newcastle Futures service, the role will provide one to one support, advice and guidance to Newcastle residents seeking employment who have a refugee or asylum background, as well as delivering workshops and building employer relationships.

About us
We work hard to make Newcastle a great place to live, work, and visit.  We are committed to making our residents’ lives happier and healthier, driven by three key priorities of tackling poverty, building an inclusive economy and achieving net zero climate impact.  You will be contributing to the Council’s ambition to be a City of Sanctuary by supporting refugees to achieve a stable LIFE (somewhere to live, an income, financial inclusion and employment).

You will be part of the diverse, talented, and resourceful teams that are striving to deliver our ambitions for our great city. If you are just as passionate and committed as us to making a difference to Newcastle and our people, join us and make a real difference. Our colleagues are committed to our values of proud, fair, and ambitious which are at the centre of everything we do.

The Job
You will deliver one-to-one support personalised mentoring for refugees in the UK to enter sustainable and meaningful employment. You will help prepare people for competitive employment and to achieve their chosen training and employment objectives.  You will work to performance targets based on outcomes such as successful completion of training courses, volunteer and work placements and paid employment.

You will deliver workshops on working in the UK. You will manage a small budget to assist individual clients to access or move towards employment. You will build and nurture a portfolio of employers working with the service.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working with people from an asylum or refugee background and/ or lived experience. This role is part funded by World Jewish Relief as part of their successful STEP (Specialised Training and Employment Programme) for refugees, working to their four core values of Individuality, Partnership, Speed and Ambition.
